21st September 2020
The Foundation for Universal Responsibility of His Holiness the Dalai Lama collaborated with the Shining Network, Kamala Nehru College, University of Delhi to organize a ‘Virtual Peace Meet – Shaping Peace Together through Kindness, Hope and Compassion” on September 21, 2020 to commemorate the United Nations ‘International Day of Peace’.
Dr. Geetesh Nirban, faculty convener of the Shining Network, opened the session by quoting His Holiness the Dalai Lama: “Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive.”
Mr. Rajiv Mehrotra, the Foundation’s Secretary and Managing Trustee, as the keynote speaker, spoke eloquently about the significance of combining the twin approaches of method and wisdom towards compassion and peace. Drawing from his personal experience as a direct disciple of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Mr. Mehrotra emphasized that efforts towards and practice of compassion are continuous and lifelong processes. He emphatically remarked that all our philosophical engagements on the topic of compassion and peace have value only when they transform our reflexes and help us soften the ‘self’.
The virtual intimate session, witnessed participation and engagement of more than forty students from across the nation and faculty members of the Kamala Nehru College.
The Foundation views such engagements with young minds and collaborations with educational institutes as part of its endeavors toward a more equal, just and peaceful world.
