The ‘Ethicate: Ethics in Education’ program develops on His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s commitment to promoting secular ethics in its diverse manifestations across cultural contexts. It continues to evolve by embracing the need for social, emotional, and ethical learning in educational spaces.
The Ethicate Conference Nurturing Universal Values Across Cultures brings together educators and young changemakers from across the South Asian region to forge synergies between education, universal values, and sustainable peace. This Conference is being organized by the Foundation for Universal Responsibility of His Holiness the Dalai Lama under the auspices of its flagship program Ethicate.
The Ethicate Program has been at the forefront of the Foundation’s endeavor, over the last 25 years, to strengthen the motivation and capacities of young people to practice nonviolence, foster gender equity, and nurture compassion at all levels of human engagement in society.
Through its several projects, using diverse methodologies, the Foundation strives to nurture—in teenagers and young adults—a sensibility that recognizes differences and builds on commonalities even as it celebrates the diversity of identities. It does this with a view to help them respond constructively and collaboratively to the unprecedented levels of violence and intolerance in the South Asian region. Today, the youth constitute the overwhelming majority of the population in this region. If the worldviews and dispositions of this demographic group can be influenced towards compassion-based values, it will have a significant impact on the long-term prospects for peace and security in the South Asian region.
